VIVIR SIN TI:
Living Without You
A LOVE LETTER TO MY MOTHER, KAREN, WHO THROUGH HER DEATH HAS BROUGHT LIFE BACK INTO ME
Vivir Sin Ti: Living Without You by Filipino emerging artist Daphne Dado, consists of contemporary and semi-realistic figurative art pieces that explore the intersections of grief, self-identity, culture, and religion.
I aim to reveal private moments, emotions, and introspection into shared human experience. These pieces will be paired with written statements to reflect my personal journey of loss, pain, and rebirth.
Public programming will be available for the audience to take part in and interact with me, focusing on community, safe spaces, and shared healing.
ABOUT THE NAME
Vivir Sin Ti (translation: living without you) is a song by Mexican artist Nico Play, which is dedicated to his mother, who has since passed away after battling cancer.
I discovered this song at the very beginning of my grief journey. It has been played late at night, when I started my earliest pieces for this exhibition.
Like Nico, I too have turned to art to make sense of the emptiness that has now permeated my soul.
